Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning is a form of mechanical exfoliation, where both dead skin cells and vellus hairs which are the fine hairs on your face, often referred to as ‘peach fuzz’ are scraped away from the surface of the skin using a sterile surgical scalpel. This rids the skin of any build-up of dead skin cells, all which can contribute to making your skin look dull or uneven. Just like an exfoliation, it removes any barriers which would stop your skincare from penetrating, meaning your products often work much more effectively after a treatment.

Dermaplaning triggers the cell regeneration process, which helps to improve, soften and smooth the appearance of acne scarring, hyperpigmentation and sun damage.

Unlike treatments such as micro-needling or acid peels, there isn’t any major downtime. Your skin will be a little pink and dry for a day or so, You may experience slight peeling for the first few days. Slight windburn sensation and/or blotchiness. You should expect to achieve optimum results a few days after your treatment.

The procedure

Don’t let the word ‘scalpel’ put you off. During dermaplaning, you can expect a slightly cold, scraping sensation. There is no pain or discomfort during the Dermaplaning procedure. It is best to relax and allow the skincare specialist to move and manipulate the position of your head and face. Try to remain still.
