The Lowdown on peels
Chemical peels are fast-becoming the number one clinical skin treatment worldwide. At a fraction of the price of laser, they can significantly reduce the appearance of wrinkles, pigmentation and blemishes with less discomfort and downtime. Just 45 minutes in our therapist's chair can visibly rejuvenate skin to provide a softer, smoother, more youthful-looking complexion. But what should you expect when you embark on a course of peels?

What is a chemical peel?
Chemical peels are a form of professional exfoliation and are formulated using the best active ingredients that are clinically proven to promote skin cell renewal and improve skin texture and tone. The peel is applied to the skin with a small brush to help resurface and retexture. Medik8 offers a wide range of 'medical-grade' peel treatments to suit everyone. From those who are very new to chemical peeling techniques, to experienced clients looking for deeper level of epidermal peeling with intensive results. Can I just have 1 peel to improve my skin?
It is possible to just have a single peel, but we recommend a course of 6 to really see the long-term skin benefits. It's a little like going to the gym; you can go occasionally but the real results will come when you commit to an ongoing programme.
12 Weeks To WOW
Welcome to Medik8's signature professional peel treatment programme. In the same way many of us sign up to a personal trainer at the gym, we invite you to 12 weeks of personalised, intensive training for your skin. We will work with you over a 12 week period to visibly transform your skin through a bespoke programme of in-clinic treatments and at-home care to achieve skin that really wows. You will receive a thorough consultation to allow us to find out your ideal skin goals, followed by six facial peels spaced apart at fortnightly intervals tailored to your specific concerns

A patch test and consultation are required two weeks prior to your peel appointment. During your consultation we will decide the appropriate peel to suit your skin needs.

Pre treatment instructions

-
Knowing how to prepare for a chemical peel the right way ensures there is no delay in starting your Medik8 skin journey. Normally, with all the Medik8 peels, the pre-treatment advice involves using less concentrated forms of the active ingredients found in the skin peels. Preparing your skin in this way is essential to the final outcome of the treatment and ensures your skin is in its best condition possible. Your practitioner will outline which Medik8 products you’ll be required to use before and after your skin peel. These products will be products like SPF, serums with vitamin C and retinoids that assimilate Medik8’s philosophy.
-
This philosophy Medik8 has invented is called the CSA Philosophy – which is as simple as using vitamin C + sunscreen during the day, and then vitamin A at night. Vitamin C + SPF during the day provides antioxidant protection against free radical damage and environmental aggressors (which are the main contributors that accelerate skin damage), stimulates collagen production and prevents the development of pigmentation for smoother and brighter skin. Vitamin A at night is so important in any anti-ageing routine, and does many things for the skin such as speeding up cellular renewal and controlling sebum production.

Aftercare for Medik8 Peels Immediately after the treatment
-
Immediately after the peel, a skin-soothing restorative serum (for example Hydr8 B5 Serum and Calmwise Serum) and our post treatment cream Ultimate Recovery will have been applied to your skin. You are advised to leave on these preparations for the remainder of the day (and preferably overnight if no sunscreen was applied) to help comfort the skin and reduce peel-induced skin redness.

Within 24 hours following the treatment
-
To cleanse the skin, use a mild, non-exfoliating cleanser such as Gentle Cleanse or Calmwise Soothing Cleanser. Flannels or sponges should be avoided. After cleansing, it is recommended to re-apply Hydr8 B5 Serum and Calmwise Serum and finish with our hydrating emollient cream Ultimate Recovery Intense. SPF 30 should be worn daily.
